Olympic champions of the 60s are the guests at juniors and the youth

The ICF Junior & U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships 2016 was attended by the honorary guests, Belarusian Olympic champions in canoes sprint of the 60's Leonid Geyshtor and Sergey Makarenko (1960, Rome).

Leonid Geyshtor shared the emotions of those who are at Junior and U23 Championships in a native country as spectators.

Leonid Geyshtor

— I am at this course for the first time. Everything corresponds to the international standards. The competitions are like real fest.

My vision of the medal count is figuring out. I think the winners of C4 will be athletes from Romania. They go impressively and quickly. Just in the finals we may see who will be the winner of C2. Now the athletes are saving their strength for further competitions. The strongest teams of the Championships are Hungary and Germany. Even the teams from Africa improved their level but the Europeans are still the best.

I want so much to hear the anthem of Belarus at these competitions. And as for me let it be one “gold” one than two “silver” ones! By the way Leonid Geyshtar pointed that the athletes today have possibility to train at the well-equipped course. In my day the athlete prepared for the Olympic Games on Lake Albano.
